Words that need to find

Posted on Tuesday 15 October 2002 by Joshua

Words that need to find their way back into mainstream American vocabulary:

Shenanigan a devious trick used especially for an underhand purpose; tricky or questionable practices or conduct; high-spirited or mischievous activity. My teacher used to say “That’s enough of your shenanigans mister. One more outburst from you and I will throw you out on your ear so fast you’ll think you slipped on a banana peel.”

Hullabaloo din or uproar. I just like the sound of this word when you say it.

Cockamamie ridiculous or incredible “Of all the cockamamie stories I have ever heard…”

Mellifluous having a smooth rich flow, filled with something that sweetens I had a prof who taught History of Civilization at Bob Jones whose voice can only be described as mellifluous. His voice just rolled and swelled like waves of sound, so rich… could put you to sleep so quick…
