Vigilant Returns

Posted on Tuesday 8 March 2011 by Joshua

Once upon a time I used to do a newsletter for parents about what is going on in popular culture. I just picked up where I left off and here is the latest and greatest issue. I focus on Justin Bieber and Glee — two pretty popular things in culture today.

Often times it is easy to just tune out and go into survival mode rather than being proactive and taking and active interest in what is going on in the daily media ingestion of our kids. It is one thing to feed them good healthy food for their bodies, but what kind of food do we allow them to feed their minds and hearts?

And that is the purpose of why I write this… to give parents just a glimpse into some of the popular culture in a easy-to-read format that addresses some of what is going on. It is not exhaustive, and not super controversial… but if it will help parents take steps to engage the culture and understand some of what their kids are facing in school, and help encourage them to choose things that are living giving and not full of stuff that will ultimately destroy their conscience, their morality and their innocence, then that is a victory. The reality is that kids are so bombarded by sexuality and profanity and stuff that most of us adults never had to deal with at the level of intensity that they do today.

In I Peter 5:8 the Bible says, “Be sober, be vigilant, for your enemy the devil walks around like a roaring lion… wait to see who his next victim to devour will be.” Check out the March issue of Vigilant here >>
