I am standing on the volleyball court. As you can see, the water is to my knees.
Normally, the water here is about 8 feet below this point. This is right before the water crested above the road.
The rains came down and the floods came up… but the house on the rock stood firm. I must confess that the old Sunday School song ran through my head more than once this past weekend. We had a tremendous amount of rain on Friday night / early Saturday morning. Needless to say, our little creek (pronounced “crick” for those of us from upstate NY) became a raging brown river. The waters began to rise, and soon the pond in front of the house flooded into the yard. The bridge to the island began to disappear and eventually the entire island and playground area was covered. The house was about 60% surrounded with water. Fortunately, the man who designed it planned for this and it could be completely surrounded by water without flooding. At any rate, things were a bit scary there for a while. I seriously was worried that it would reach the house. But God is good and the waters stopped rising at around 9:30 last night. They have now receded and are close to being back to where they should be. Now the real work begins for clean up.
did you go swimming?
Nice picture.
