The NY Fireball Tour

Posted on Monday 15 January 2007 by Joshua

My Dad calls my trips the fireball tours. I guess because I come in on a Friday and leave on Sunday. 24 hours of driving in one weekend. It’s a very tiring experience, let me assure you. You have to enjoy your car to spend that much time in it. That being said, I am so glad I have an iPod with a bazillion songs and teachings on it. I went home to see my Papa, who is in the hospital awaiting surgery on Tuesday. He was in very good spirits and it was really good to spend the day with him on Saturday. Matt & Trish & kids came over from CT, Sara & kids, Lisa & kids and Mom were all there, so it made for, shall we say, an active afternoon. Although I encountered no bad weather on the way to NY, the way home was different. As I walked outside on Sunday morning, I was wise enough to survey the ground before I stepped on the ice covered steps…and sidewalks and street. I spent a pleasant half hour scarping ice off the car and thanking God for my garage in Indiana. The neighbor man, however, did not take a moment before he stepped out his front door, and purposefully strode forward, fully intending to reach his truck with his coffee. Well, his house was about 8-10 steps up from the driveway, and he swiftly traversed that area. In a matter of an eye blink, feet and coffee went flying and he flew down those stairs and slid halfway into the street. Before I could even utter a sound or make a move to help, he was up and disappeared into his house. So I hope he was ok. I have to say, if I had a video camera, it would have been a funny sight to see. Anyway, I made it safely home, although I had to take it quite slow at the onset. It did rain for 12 hours, which never makes for fun travel. But I was able to listen to quite a few good teachings, so that was cool. Anyway, it was good to see everyone, and even though it was quick, I am so glad I went.

Here are some pictures of the weekend.

Mom’s house in Scotia. In NY, this is considered a duplex. One apartment up and one down.

Ryan, Kayli, Rhea and Papa at the hospital.

Rhea was very concerned about all the tubes and whether needles hurt Poppie or not. So he explained how it all works to her.

Abrianna, Alessandra and Papa. Alessandra is very chatty, so she was fun to watch.

Sara and Julianna (Lisa & Joe’s daughter). Sara was spinning her about and then she tried to walk afterward. It was quite amusing.

Lisa gives Alessandra a horse ride. The girls love horses.

Matt’s turn with Abrianna.

Gram and I. Don’t let her size fool you… she is a tough one!

Josh! I only have 19 minutes left on this wireless card we bought in the hotel in Kigali. So, here’s the highlights. We don’t have a phone…so if anyone needs to get ahold of us call our guide Alex. His number is 08504277. Calls coming in are free for him (not for home).
Tomorow we head off for the jungle!!!
    Keep praying!
    Liz
