the last night

Posted on Friday 28 January 2005 by Joshua

Well, after nearly two years in my upstairs penthouse room at the Voice Ministries, I am moving. It is a bittersweet thing in many respects. I will miss the activity and the convenience of living and working in the same place and being able to walk downstairs and go to the prayer room whenever I want. But at the same time, I will not miss the general craziness of living at a place that is open 24/7 and dealing with musicians who have no concept of “other people do sleep and don’t want to hear your rendition of your favorite song at 3am” or “just because I live here, doesn’t mean I have all the answers at 6:30 in the morning.” That is what I won’t miss. My office will still be here though.

You can see the delightful 70s faux-Tudor architectural style in the exterior of this rambling place that we call “The Lodge.”

This is just a part of the nearly mile long access road to “The Lodge.”

In any event, the new place is pretty cool. Nice and big. It is sitting on about 400 acres of fields and woods. The driveway is a mile long. Ok, I kid… it is 8/10ths of a mile long. I recently learned to plow, and this driveway was the first thing I did. The house was built in the 70s and as such, is what I like to call “panelling heaven.” It’s a rambler as well going here and there with a few additions. For some reason, people were fixated on Tudor style in the 70s. And for some reason, I keep moving into houses built in the 70s in the Tudor style. It’s like some kind of a bizarre architectural torture for me.

This is the basement bar. I need to think of a name for it.

Anyway, I will be occupying the basement level of the house. It’s a pretty decent sized room. I have my own bathroom and even a bar (complete with brass rail sink, fridge and copper covered counters, I might add). So, I am fairly excited about the additional room and privacy. The downside is that the ceiling is like barely 7′. I am used to 14′ ceilings with skylights. Ah well, life goes on and change is good. I am hoping to have everything finally moved tomorrow. I will be living with a family – Denny, Ev, Candy and Robert. The other cool thing is that I will be able to park my 4Runner in a garage! We have three, so I get one of the spaces! Quite excited about that.
