The “Insanity of Insaneness” or “What was I thinking?”

Posted on Saturday 7 June 2008Saturday 7 June 2008 by Joshua

What an insane week. If I can just get through tomorrow (or today since it is after midnight)… It’s like this. Thursday – Bob leaves on vacation. I volunteer to do room makeover for his son. Meanwhile still working on Robert’s room. Meanwhile, my friends Dave and Liz are here. Meanwhile, we are working in the new place. Manage to fit in Caspian. Sunday – Robert graduates. All week – work like crazy on new building for a tour on Sunday. (Thankfully we get a floor machine for the thousands of square feet of hard surfaces in the building.) Oh yeah, and get our house ready for Robert’s open house Saturday. Oh yeah, and do the room makeover thing. Oh yeah, and design a catalog and an annual report. Oh yeah, and accept three new design jobs. Oh yeah, and design Robert’s photo book with 420 photos for his open house. Did I mention the truck load of mulch for the garden and the three trees that fell yesterday in the storm. Oh yeah, and my chainsaw broke so we had to chop the tree that fell across the driveway with axes like the pioneers. Despite the craziness, despite the fact that there were like 200 or more people here and we had set up and tear down with tables and chairs and grilles and tents and food, and the fact that it is 12:54 and I am writing descriptions for the big tour open house deal… I feel like a whole lot was accomplished and we have had lots of memorable and fun experiences along the way. The look on Robert Deering’s face today when he saw his new room… priceless. Blew him away. That was my goal! So I am off for now to try and catch a few hours of sleep. I know I will read this later and wonder what I was thinking when I wrote it. Photos to come sometime soon.

Josh, you could totally run a small country! Glad we were there for some of the excitement.

Liz, if he ran a small country, it would have to be a benevolent dictatorship type of government. You would not be allowed to use PC’s, only Macs, there would be mandatory recycling, and the national food would be chicken and white rice, although there would probably be a day honoring banana’s. The national anthem would be Eurobeat and we would all wear custom T-shirts with our job or logo on it. Still, it would be a beautiful, well-landscaped country, jet skiing would be highly encouraged, as would nature walks and digital photography. And Josh would whiz around on a Segue, reminding us to clean up our mess, not to eat at the desk, and to keep our children with us at all times. It would have an official name like The Serene Kingdom of His Benevolent Kindness with a Shepherd’s Heart, but we would just call it the SKB!
