I’ve had this song in my head this morning. As I took my traditional Thanksgiving stroll through the woods with a Starbucks hot chocolate in hand on a 28 degree morning, I thought of so many things I am thankful for and all the blessings that have come down in 2018. I am grateful for the faithfulness of God. He gives good gifts and joy is found in so many unexpected places. As I continue to journey down the path of life, I find that the small things matter — those simple moments of peace, of a deep breath on the edge of a pond in the forest; of the feel of the warmth of the setting sun on my face and the sound of the crashing waves on a Lake Michigan beach; of the laughter of the kids as they experience the wonder of childhood; of good conversations that encourage and cause me to appreciate friendship; of long talks on the phone with Mom, Matt, and Sara; of long drives down dirt roads with good music and camera in hand…. these moments and memories fill me with gratitude that I have the freedom and ability to enjoy and be blessed in such a way. Eight years ago, Dad passed away into eternity and I find myself missing him particularly today. Yet I am thankful for the father he was to me, and the impact his life had on so many over the years.
Anyway, it’s a day to celebrate blessings; to express gratitude. And to Jesus Christ, who is such a part of my day to day experience, I am humbled and thankful that you offered me such a gift of love, acceptance, and salvation.
