2 days from now is April 15th…. the dreaded tax day. Usually by now I have paid my taxes (since I always have to pay), but not this year. This year I owe $2,440 and change. As of right now I have about half of that. So I am hoping for a miracle.
This brings me to a discussion we were having last night. I think that our current system of taxation is absolutely inequitable. Flat tax is where it’s at my friends. Everyone the same percentage across the board. Life would be much easier paying a 10% tax… Of course it might actually cause the government to stop spending like mad. My question is, how can our government operate so inefficiently? Any business owner would have to say that if they operated their business like our government does, they would be out of business. And I don’t care which party is in power, both mismanage money and power… spending money they don’t have, putting the burden on people who largely can’t pay for these programs. Ugh. I am tired of money. Let’s go back to the barter system.
Do you think the IRS would take a used TV, a couple of IKEA chairs and some geese in exchange for my tax bill?
Sounds like a bad Metallica song, “The Tax Day Cometh”
Yeah, I mean, you’re “here”. Right?? You’ve been through similar situations before; you’ll make it.
brad – thanks for the offer. i had an accountant do mine, so i know it is all kosher. basically i didn’t keep enough back for taxes this year. but you know, i am not worried at all. God continually takes care of me, and i know that somehow it will work out. i will keep you posted on how that happens in the coming days 🙂
I would love to give you the money my friend! You know I am here for you straight up! And since i don’t have that kind of money I will just support your Carmel Hot Cocoa Addiction! 😉 hehehe…. Have a blessed day!
I’m always amazed at the scrambling this time of year. Last year I was my first rush on taxes ever. This year, my federal was filed electronically and my state is ready to be mailed tomorrow. I feel great.
Straight up: You only do this once a year, sheesh. Everybody needs to chill. Except Joshua…
How could you possibly owe that kind of money? Seriously, I wish I had it to give to you. If things don’t seem right, I have TaxCut on my PC and I could help you run some figures if you want. There might be some way to get a better deduction.
I’m sorry you have to go through all of this financial mess–it should be easier to be in ministry. If I can help at all, please let me know before the 15th.
AMEN JOSH!!! I was up late last night trying to get all our paperwork done, which I didn’t so I will be up again tonight. Does the government realize the mess they have created with all the documentation we have to provide, all the hoops we have to go through, and the massive amounts of stress that they put on the very people they want support from? ARGH! What a horribly flawed systemwe have!
Probably not, but I’ll take the chairs!
