Memorial weekend always brings with it the anticipation of putting the SeaDoo in the water and sailing out across the waves at full speed; feeling the wind of freedom and the sun on your back… I always look forward to it. This year was one of the hottest Memorial Days in a while. Typically it rains or is cloudy, but this year was definitely not the case — 90 degrees and sunny.
Sunday was amazing… great time at church – Dave Ramer was right on. He’s been in a great place lately, and I look forward to his messages every week. Robert is home from college for the summer, so we thought it would be fun to have our buddy Zach come stay at the house for the evening. Zach is quite a character. He’s 13, so he is a bundle of energy and full of random bits of sword swinging ninja prowess combined with bizarre and off the comments and expressions. He’s a great kid though, and he has a heart for the Lord. He’s on the youth worship team and enjoys playing the electric guitar. We had fun hanging out, washing the SeaDoo and getting it ready for the lake, and then watching Twister during the big rainstorm (right after we washed the cars. Yup.). After the rain we were eating dinner, and we heard the sound of the 4wheeler driving in the trails behind the house and some one laughing and yelling. We went out to see and saw, to our surprise, Bob Deering and his son Caleb, driving at full speed through giant puddles, spraying muddy water all over…dripping wet and laughing the whole time. It was so awesome. So then of course, Bob encouraged us to do it, and we had to! It was incredibly fun. We were so wet and muddy and cold, but sometimes you just have to play in the mud, you know? After hosing off, we chilled out to the new Narnia movie – Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
Monday morning came bright and early for me. I was unable to sleep in. Zach was awake and Robert was sleeping in as usual, so the two of us went up and put the battery in the SeaDoo and some fresh oil and she fired right up! Also for this season, I had the seat reupholstered as it was old and faded to the point of utter nastiness. We heded out for the lake after that and spent several hours of fun enjoying the beauty of the day. It was Zach’s first time and he was excited to be thrown off (several times) but even more so to drive it. We ended the day with some geocaching, McDonalds and sunburns all around. Not too bad of a way to start off the summer, I would say!
I was thinking how it is a privilege to be here in a country where we have leisure time. So many people in the days of old did not even have that concept in their cultures. Lesiure? Recreation? Seriously. We take it for granted so often, but it is such a blessing to be able to spend time on a lake with no work, no worries, and just soaking in the sun. The Lord gives us good gifts, and He allows us to enjoy spending time in His creation! It’s awesome. God is good and I, for one, am very glad He made lakes.
Sounds like a super fantastic time. It was 82ish in Ocean Park, ME. where David, myself, and a dear friend spent time soaking up the sun and swimming in the 55 degree Atlantic Ocean. No fun toys but the enormous waves!!! Glad you boys had a good time!!
i hope thru this experiance you and your friends can see that God and his creation shine so bright and awesomely around the earth today…. i really hope you dont get sunburned because i hate when i do..anyway be careful, and always be kind!
