Summasummasummatime

Posted on Sunday 1 August 2010 by Joshua

I love summer. Mainly because I can lay on the beach and attempt to tan my fair Irish skin. For goodness sake, I am half Italian. Why did I not inherit the Italian perpetual olive-tan-complexion? That’s what I want to know. But nooooo, instead, I don’t tan. I burn. Well, eventually I do tan, it just takes me many times of burning to finally get tan. One cool thing about summer at the beach is that I get to wear my über cool Michael Jackson throwback sunglasses. Since I have to wear my glasses to see distance, I usually don’t wear sunglasses. But at the beach, they are a must. I really feel like one of the Jacksons with these bad boys, let me just tell you.  Oh yes, this is a completely shallow and silly post about nothing, but since I have been serious on here lately, I thought I would spice it up with some nonsensical nonsense.

The beach is a wealth of fascination for me really. People are so interesting to watch, and the conversations you actually have with people either walking to the beach, laying on the beach or while swimming are always a little strange but interesting all the same. And you get to see people of all shapes and sizes. The downside though, is that you often see waaaaaayyyyy more of people that you ever desired. I have in mind a very large man that I recently saw who was as red as a beet, and wearing the tiniest of bathing suit, or the equally large woman with the equally tiny bikini. Yeah. Way to much information for me.

Kids are hilarious to watch. They are always building something – digging these holes in the sand and creating moats and piles, or they are competing. Two boys I saw the other day – the older brother was dogging on his younger brother about climbing this huge sand dune. The younger boy whined, “That’s too far, I don’t feel like it.” “Wuss!” the older brother shouted and started up the hill. “Wait up! I’m not a wuss! I can get up that hill just as fast as you can!” younger replied and ran after his brother. They did both conquer that hill and and came running down at full speed, covered in sand, and plunged into the water laughing. That’s a good day right there. Naturally, I had to climb the dune too. Once you get to the top it’s like a meadow with tall grass on gentle rolling hills. It’s really beautiful. All around you look over the lake, and on a clear day you can see Chicago.

Anyway… Summer. It’s a great time. Go to the beach. Climb some dunes. Splash around. Read a book. Enjoy all that natural Vitamin D. Breathe deep and enjoy it now… for winter is on the way.

For the tan, it is called “self-tanning lotion.” I just started using it out here cause the Sun is brutal…..and, it works….try it!

I do feel bad for people with your skin type, getting a tan makes me feel so good, all the sun soaking into my body, simply amazing! I am blessed to have the indian side of my family pouring through when it comes to that, outside for 1 hour = nice golden brown. I don’t take it for granted, I just can’t get enough!

You know, I think you could pull off those glasses away from the beach too. All you need are prescription lenses and you’re set! My step-mother-in-law has glasses like that and they’re pretty cool.
