During times of uncertainty and in the midst of everyone seemingly having lost their collective minds over every little thing, it is incumbent upon people of faith and common sense to stay steady and remain calm.
St. Paul gives some good advice to Timothy in his second letter. He is encouraging him to stay strong in the faith and and to be overcome with worry about using his gifts and abilities. He says that we do not have to be given over to fear; instead, we can walk in a place of power, love, and a sound mind. When we stand in a place of faith and connection with the Divine; when we are confident in hope and full of that Divine love; the “spirit of fear” can not exist. Like light pushes out darkness, perfect love banishes fear. We can experience miraculous power and strength. You hear stories of people doing amazing things in moments of crisis, and I believe this supernatural energy comes with that Divine interaction. This love fills us and surrounds us; so we pass that experience along to those around us. As we are deeply loved, we love others. When Jesus broke everything down to the point of it all, His top two things were: Love God; Love others. A sound mind is paramount to staying steady in times of heightened emotion and chaos. Another definition of this word is self-control or discipline.
So if you want to live above the fray and not get caught up in all the panic, practice walking in a place of Divine faith, strength, light, love, and self control. Stay steady, my friends.
Amen dude. I love this writing. It’s something we can all aspire to
– that steadiness that speaks of a peace within. Peace is like living energy of God, it’s what keeps balance in all things. I think of the Psalms and how they speak of heavens and the earth shouting his praise, how even they know their place with God.
And I see steadiness as just aligning with that. Like we’re on an infinite journey to know this peace more. That just transcends our understanding. And what we need most is love within, namely His Spirit, and so naturally when we act on that love… we live as we were always intended to. As He desires all men to.
And it’s comforting to know, like you and St Paul mention, that we dont have to live in these mindsets anymore. Through Christ we really can love, we can run this race together.
