“Lighthouses don’t go running all over an island looking for boats to save; they just stand there shining.” – Anne Lamott
Psalm 119:105 — His word is a light to the path ahead of me. Just as in the days of old, when they would attach small lamps to their sandals so that each step would be lit as they walked, God has given us wisdom through these scriptures that illuminate the way, step by step. Whether it is in the writings of wisdom, of worship poetry, of the men of faith and the mistakes they made along their journey, the Bible gives us guidance.
As our paths are lit by illumination from the Word of God, so our lives can serve as points of illumination for others who are in darkness. There was a time when we needed to see the light of hope and salvation, and many were lifted out of the darkness when someone shone brightly — whether it was a kind act or a word of encouragement — something was sparked in us. When we accepted His great gift of salvation, we too became points of light — a city on a hill — a lighthouse on the edge of the harbor. We remember how far He brought us; we see what He has done; and because of that, we can’t help but shine brightly. We become the lighthouses who don’t do anything but shine out His light — of hope, of truth, of mercy, of service, of love.
