Some of my friends recently decided to boycott the American Red Cross because of their support of Planned Parenthood. While I commend their efforts in standing against abortion, There are so many other companies whose products we use every single day who support Planned Parenthood. Boycotting is a powerful weapon, to be sure. However, my contention is that before you boycott, it is wise to investigate to see if you are being consistent. Because if you are not going to support the Red Cross (who helps save millions of lives by utiltizing people’s donation of blood and who tirelessly worked in the aftermath of the 9/11 attack) I better not see you eating Taco Bell, drinking Mountain Dew or listening to any artist on Sony Records, eating cereal from General Mills, using AT&T phonecards, shopping at Marshall Fields, using a Hewlett Packard computer, taking Advil, eating Ben and Jerry’s, or going to Blockbuster … just to name a few.
Again, I am not discouraging their efforts to speak out against the murder of the unborn who have no say. I commend them on their stance, and applaud them for standing out in the cold and making a statement. There should be more people willing to be strong in what they believe and be willing to stand up for it, even when everyone doesn’t stand with them or agree.
