Snow Wars

Posted on Thursday 15 February 2007Thursday 15 February 2007 by Joshua

I think I am in the midst of a family snow war. Everyone in the family is trying to outdo each other. First I get an email from Uncle Tom regarding the upcoming weather in Vermont. Then Aunt Nancy sends around a bunch of pics of their deck which is covered with tons of snow. After that I get a mail from Uncle Kevin with all the snow they are getting in Ravenna. Shortly after that, Uncle Roger chimes in with his remarks on the beauty of living in the warm Texas sunshine. My sister Sara is next with news from the wilds of Broadalbin and the drifts of snow there. Kevin, not to be outdone, send more pics. Wild Texan Aunt Susan cackles crazily and tries to make everyone feel better by saying they had sleet. Despite the fact that we have had some snow here and lots of drifts and crazy wind, I have been strangely silent in the midst of this debate. THAT’S BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN SITTING IN A PLOW TRUCK FOR DAYS. I was out last night until midnight plowing. Even this morning, the driveway was drifted shut with 4-5′ drifts of snow. So my pics were limited, sadly. But here are a few of them.

That’s my garage. Thankfully, I have no reason to use the small mower door. The big door is on the side and I have plowed it out.

The truck in front of the house… It’s getting a much earned rest and I am getting hot chocolate.

Of course, there is always a bit of time for some fun… When you have a mile long driveway with a nice packed snow surface, who can resist some waterskiing…I mean some being-pulled-behind-a-truck-sled-ing.

Sometimes the drifting snow makes for some tough visibility. This picture is really tame compared to the whiteouts and the drifted over roads. If I had the presence of mind to stop last night in the midst of the drifts I would have. I was afraid if I stopped I might get stuck.

Here’s the work horse… My plow is due for a sandblasting and a paint job. Hopefully this summer. You would think that with as much time as I spend in this truck I would have a good stereo, but it is just a stock one. Thankfully, it has a cassette deck that I can plug in a tape that runs to my iPod.

SO, the photos are great! I miss those good ole lake effect snows and drifts. Enjoy the plowing and remember Hot Cocoa is a must! 🙂

I am offended – “Crackles Crazily”. I would rather be the chimed in person. The pictures are all beautiful to look at but I kind of like our sunny dry spot one earth even if it is a little cold! Y’all enjoy it!!

Conan, Josh Vida, Kris Scheid and I had a lot of fun on Cross View drive a couple weeks back. We strapped a snowboard to our feet and skitched behind Conans work truck. It was a lot of fun as well as memorable. And what did you exactly mean by “thanks man” I took it as I cleared some things up for ya but I hope it doesn’t make me the enemy.
