Slippery Roads + Early Morning = Not Good

Here’s the sight that greeted me at 7:35 this morning as I came to the Camp… snowing and blowing and freezing.

Looking out my office window this morning at about 9:00… It actually began to snow harder. Ugh… Fall came too late and snow too early. I never even got all the leaves picked up!

So I almost got hit by a school bus full of children this morning… It was snowing as I got up this morning and dismally looked at the 19 degree digital readout on my indoor outdoor thermometer. After sliding through my first turn off the main road, I proceeded more carefully (and with the four wheel drive locked firmly in place) to the school. As I approached the intersection at the bottom of the small hill, I began slowing, knowing it was probably ice beneath that snow. Naturally, my instincts were spot on as the truck began to slide. I attempted to steer out of the slide as there was an oncoming bus who had no obvious intentions of slowing. My truck then turned sideways, meaning I would be hit head on by the swiftly moving schoolbus full of sleepy children. The truck continued to slide in slow motion untile it now faced the opposite way of where I was originally headed, but out of harm’s way. I got turned back around and headed to the school. We then encountered another driver who was in a similar predicament and spun his car around in the midst of a whole bunch of school traffic. After I dropped off Robert, I headed for the Camp. Along the way, an impatient minivan mom zipped out of her driveway and promptly went into a ditch. Needless to say, the worn tires on the 4Runner have been replaced… $633 later, I have all new tires which were much much needed. Not that it will completely help the problem I had this morning, but it will help some.

Frankly, this is one of those times I’m so glad I live in California. Sometimes I miss the snow, but then I just beat my head against a wall until I snap out of it. 🙂
