Yesterday I took a stroll around the University Park Mall in Mishawaka… just out looking for the mid summer deals. But not much luck (mainly because not much dough). In any event, I passed the store to which I so often make mention Abercrombie & Fitch. I often wonder why it is that this store irks me so (especially since I was a former faithful shopper), but I guess once evil gets dragged into the light and you see it for all it’s ugly twisted darkness with new eyes, you can’t help but try and continue to expose others to the truth you have discovered. At any rate, I walked by the store and noticed their new look. They have put black wide-slat shutters on the windows (which do look cool) so you are unable to see in fully – only see glimpses here and there of what might be inside. The lighting has been dimmed, although the same thumping sex-drive music (that’s what I call it anyway) is still playing. Even though they discontinued their $6 sex-a-log, I don’t think they have changed much. A brief look at their website confirms that sexuality in their promotion is still the same. My old alma mater, Bob Jones University, as I would have expected, has taken a stance against A&F and Hollister clothing by stating: Abercrombie & Fitch and its subsidiary Hollister have shown an unusual degree of antagonism to the name of Christ and an unusual display of wickedness in their promotions. In protest, we will not allow articles displaying their logos to be worn, carried, or displayed (even if covered or masked in some way). Oddly enough… I agree with their stance on this issue. All that to say, I don’t mind the shutters. In fact, if they would shutter their other subsidiary store – Victoria’s Secret – that would be a good thing. I get so tired of walking about and getting assaulted (like the peanut in the last post) with sexual imagery. I’m not asking for it, I’m not paying for it … yet it is constantly barraging me… and the rest of society.
Ah well, I guess it is like Paul said to Timothy – You should also know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control; they will be cruel and have no interest in what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. II Timothy 3
I’m just glad that in the end, purity and holiness will prevail when the Lord establishes His kingdom here. Can’t wait for the day.
You know I’m with you on Abercrombie, but is Victoria’s Secret really a big deal? I mean, I personally have no problem averting my eyes. I find it kinda funny to watch all the guys in the mall turn their heads as they walk by.
I guess I see the point, but maybe it’s just not my weakness.
Can I ask one question?? If the website is sexual…why do you have a link to it on your site? Shouldn’t you help make it difficult to get on there. I was almost gonna look and see, “just how bad is it, really?” But than I was like, ” don’t look, even if it’s not that bad, what if it is…” So, there you go…a question to ponder.
My favorite part of your post…..Holiness and purity prevail in the end…..and I say along with many…”God, come, establish your kingdome on the earth!!!!”
II Timothy 3 – Wow – nice usage
brad – it is funny to see that too. i think i know more on what is on that side of the mall than what is on the vickie’s secret side.
betsy – mainly because i believe that people sometimes have no clue what they are wearing (and thereby promoting), and if they don’t really believe what i am writing, i am giving them the chance to find out for themselves what i have discovered. while i do not recommend or endorse A&F, Hollister and the like, i also realize that we live in a society of apathy, where many [christian] people just do not consider, do not think, do not ponder these issues. i do not consider them to be trivial, but rather a reflection of the heart and mind. it is a very valid question, and any time i discuss on here, i do consider it. but it is the same thing for the abortion issue. do we really have to show the dead babies in the trash can? and i believe sometimes we do, because it solidifies our position on why we stand for life – those horrific images of murder will never leave me, and it further strengthens my resolve to stand against abortion. so the same is true in this case. A&F, et al. claim they are taming down their marketing, so i check it out and say, no, as a matter of fact, it is still just as explicit, still just as perverted, and it strengthens my resolve against them. a small fight, i know… but i am still continually amazed at even the people at voice who shop there and endorse their products by wearing them.
