Charlie Rose (The Charlie Rose Show) tripped the other day in a pothole on 59th Street in NY. Rather than sacrifice his brand new Macbook Air with a pavement collision, he chose his face. I guess he figured his face would heal whereas the Mac… wouldn’t. If it were me, I think I would have chosen the same thing. In fact, I probably would have done the same for my old PowerBook G4.
It’s funny how some of us are so protective of temporal things like phones, computers, china or figurines. But when it comes to our bodies, we abuse the heck out of them through poor diet, no exercise, and the excessive consumption of harmful substances. Our bodies are supposed to be temples. Sadly, many treat them like dumpsters. Even though I might have chosen to sacrifice my face to save the $3,000 it would take to replace my PowerBook, I also have a healthy respect for my temple. God gave it to me and despite its problems… it’s the only one I will get in this life. (P.S. I can not wait for the next life where I will have a new one!)
awesome trail of thought.
I am finding I having more respect for my temple these days.
It’s all I have to work with and truly what the Lord intended for me so I figure I might want to make it the best temple it can possibly be… 🙂
We miss your wit my friend.
The other day I saw a really banged up Mac in the HOP and so after asking around found it to be Alicia Powells. I told her that I was so careful with mine, because I thought it might break in half if I dropped it. To which she only laughed and said that she had dropped, more like thrown across the room 4-5 times and it still works beautifully. I say this only to save a face or two out there, if given the opportunity to choose between Mac or a face plant.
Josh, Yeah. I’d save the computer every time. 🙂 I don’t fall often, but one of the worst spills I took was when my 23-year-old son was a newborn. My 3-year-old daughter got a little jealous that day that I was carrying Kevin along the sidewalk instead of her, and she TRIPPED me. On the ice. All I could think on my way down, as I cradled Kevin to my chest, was to protect the back of his head with my bare hands. My hands don’t look too great to this day, but I think Kevin turned out pretty well!!
