Rant[s] of the Day:
1. A friend sends me a link to a page on the Onion. [For those of you who don’t know it is a satirical website on various issues of news and such – generally it is a raunchy publication]. Anyway, the article was about a alleged new video game called Beltway Sniper and how the release was being delayed out of respect for the victims. For the life of me, I can not understand how people can find situations like these humorous. Like 30 people were killed by these two guys and there are actually people trying to make light of the situation? What is that? A bunch of sicko freaks… that’s what i say. Not cool. Not remotely funny. On a good note, the 13 year old boy that was shot was released from the hospital yesterday and is doing ok.
2. I was having a debate with a friend of mine about music [of course]. He maintains that this wannabe punk group which is mainly a teenybopper group now Good Charlotte is Christian. So I read all their lyrics, I read about 20 interviews with them from when they released their first album until the other day, and there is NOTHING in any of their stuff to prove that. So if they are, they are the most silent Christian musicians about their faith. (I still maintain they are not at all Christian, but he is misinformed) Which brings me to a point. I always argue with people about Christian lyrics being blatantly obvious. People say that you don’t have to be obviously Christian in your music, but my question is… why not? Why would you not? As a Christian lyricist and musican, are you ashamed of the amazing things God has done in your life? Even though you go through many trials and struggles, shouldn’t God still be a huge part of that? Have you ever read the Psalms and see how David handled it? Aren’t we supposed to let our lights shine before men so that they may see who is in us and give glory to God and be changed because of what they see in us? Aren’t we supposed to be that city on the hill that can not be hid because of the amount of light that shines for all to see? We are part of the warrior worshippers being called forth in these last days to not be timid or fearful, but to be bold and strong! Isn’t that the point? God has given us so many abilities and talents… I believe he expects us to use them for him and not bury them under a bunch of weak arguments about trying to be culturally relavant and not offend anyone.
