Rant of the Week: Ok,

Posted on Friday 16 August 2002 by Joshua

Rant of the Week:
Ok, the other night I went to an ATM machine. Let me just say a few things about owning a small car and ATM machines. This doesnt apply to SUV’s because the people who build and install these outdoor machines must be under the mistaken notion that the world drives SUVs. That being said… I drive up to the machine and, of course, it is built flat against the wall. One can not get the car close enough because there is a nice curb that projects 18″ out from the base of the building. So I leeeeeaaaan waaaaaaaaaay out and vainly attempt to put my card in. The slot is located above the roof of my car, so I am stretching and contorting my body to put the card in the slot. It always asks you “English or Espanol” before you begin. However, even when you press “English,” you still get the instructions in Spanish underneath the English. Why? Who knows! Then the best part of it is that the instructions don’t line up with the buttons on the right and left, and since you are stretching anyway to try and type in your selections … you end up taking things from the wrong sections. Then it has to ask you about 38 questions related to where and what account and you are frantically and impatiently pressing buttons because your abs are killing you from half-stretching out of your chair. By the time you finally get your money (I asked for $10 or so I thought but managed to get the fast fifty withdrawal) you are out of breath from the mere exertion of trying to withdraw money. All in all, it’s a most unpleasant experience, I must say. Remind me to drive the truck next time or give me a walk-up unit any day.
