Isn’t it amazing how spring brings with it a desire to clean and make things new and fresh? Ok, maybe that is not the case for everyone, but it certainly is with me. I love moving things and sweeping the old dead leaves out from the cracks of the sidewalks and pulling down the cobwebs that have somehow managed to find their way up into the edges of the ceilings. And one of the best things in the world – better than the proverbial sliced bologna – to clean all that stuff up, is a high pressure power washer.
The other day, Chad and I were doing some powerwashing at the Camp, Bob’s house and while we were at it, my house. We borrowed a sweet powerwasher from Conan and when we picked it up, he had included an interesting little addition just to make our lives easier. This brilliant piece of equipment attached to the high pressure hose and became a power scrubber for sidewalks and driveways. Oh my gosh, it saved us so much time and did an amazing job. You could seriously do a sidewalk in a matter of minutes. The back patio only took like ten minutes and came out so clean and bright.
It’s funny how a stream of water by itself can clean stuff, but the deep dirt – down in the pores – doesn’t come out very well with just a hose. But when you attached a tremendous force of the same water, wow, the difference that makes. The lesson is, if you want to get really really clean, use a power washer. Ok, maybe not the best idea as it would probably take your skin off. The real lesson is that in order to get past the surface dirt and clean down deep, it’s going to take some pressure. It might hurt and sting, but in the end, look how brilliant it all looks. I think that applies to what God was saying in His word when he speaks of the refining gold by the fire. Purification is not a pleasant or easy process – whether by fire or high pressure water. It’s messy, uncomfortable and often leaves you worn out. But the final product… oh my, how worth it is to see that sparkling clean expanse of concrete, or better yet, that beautiful golden bowl, gleaming and magnificent.

Josh,
Good stuff. I also enjoy a good a power-washer experience. I’m very glad that when God takes the power-washer to us He knows exactly the right amount of pressure to use. He might strip off some old coats of paint, but He doesn’t damage our “structure.”
Dave – Very true. It’s like using the different nozzles – some are for sharp streams and those impossible things to get at, and others are wide fans of spray that can cover larger areas… each one important for its function. God’s pretty good at doing that too – exposing those things that need to be cleaned, and showing us how to do it. Good stuff.
