Over the Top

Posted on Tuesday 5 June 2007Thursday 7 June 2007 by Joshua

Worship, as Bob often says, was “over the top” tonight. My goodness. Eric Ward was back and led with Mike Johnson and the whole evening was so full of energy. We didn’t even do the “power songs” but everyone was so engaged. Several points in the worship time, the team was about to stop a song or move in a different direction, but we (the worshippers) would have nothing of it – there was a desire, a longing for the release and outpouring of joy – and yeah… it definitely happened. At one point, Bob took the mike (EDIT: that would be mic, thank you Eric Ward) and was speaking, and then the team was grooving behind him. They fell into this wonderful groove and everyone picked up the cadence and started clapping. Bob said, “Go on, I can’t hold you back!” So we did. Then he started dancing and jumping as were many of us. Seriously, it was so much fun tonight. I don’t know what has been going on lately, but despite the fact that things are seemingly falling apart and the ministry is in a season of change, Tuesday nights, by and large, have been going nuts! It’s great. Even when the crowds are small, people are hungering and desiring and engaging in worship. It’s awesome. It was also cool to see my good friend and proud new motorcycle owner Scott Devlin and his friends there – all the way from the Warsaw area.

The team at the Meeting Place is slowly coming together. With Mike (keys or guitar) and Eric (acoustic guitar) leading, Denny Mee on bass, Bob on percussion, the new guy on drums, Troy on keys, and singers like Betsy (amazing!) Angie, Gracie, or Amy R., I think we are definitely in for some great times ahead.

Wow, that sounds awesome! I remember when I led one night how the people were pulling more out of us as a worship team than I first expected. It was surprising. You know, despite how the outside looks, God looks inward and sure is stirring the people. It is a new season! I’m so glad the Meeting Place has been moving the way it has.

I must say with tears in my eyes, how awesome it is to hear Eric was leading and that things went so well. I miss hearing him. 🙁 Thanks for updating. Betsy is AMAZING isn’t she! 🙂

Can’t tell you how many times I look back at you guys in the media booth — the unsung heroes that tie everything together. Not only that, but you’re as much, if not more, a part of the worship than the team on the stage. We can sing our hearts out, but if no one engages there is no unity, and consequently, not much power. I admire your silent, strong leadership and am encouraged by your faithful, abandoned heart of worship.

    Thank you.
