It has been a super busy few weeks! We have been ripping out carpeting, ceiling tiles, bathroom stalls and vanities, pouring concrete and building new walls at the Concord Center. It is a little overwhelming some days when I walk in there and realize how much there is to be done, but at the same time, it is amazing at the people who have come along side us to donate their time and resources. The Lord is bringing people to partner with us and do some pretty unexpected and awesome things. We have such a great group of talented folks!
I was thinking the other day about how this process of demolition reveals so much of what is hidden. We found a heating/ac duct that had fallen down up in the ceiling that if we had not torn down the ceiling tiles in the lobby, we would have never known it was pumping heat or air into the space above the ceiling. We found old electrical boxes that we uncovered and all kinds of things that various people over the 30+ years of repairs had thought no one would probably ever see, so what difference would it make? The more you tear the “skin” off of something, the easier it is to see how it is constructed. Now here we are, with rooms being stripped of that skin that has locked in the old and new life is being allowed to circulate and breathe in those formerly closed off spaces. From old water leaks dripping on ceiling tiles to years of spilled sodas on vintage carpeting, with all of that gone, it is smelling less musty and I know once we paint it and put new carpeting in, shine up the floors and start some coffee brewing, it’s going to be a cool little place.
There is so much to do for sure, but I know that The Lord is going to do some cool stuff here. Already there are people excited about coming, and connections are being made. We know that when we follow the Lord’s leading He is going to bless. All we need is a spirit of servanthood, love, and humility and allow The Lord to lead!
