Ode to Part Way

Posted on Thursday 16 January 2020Thursday 16 January 2020 by Joshua

Listening to some good thoughts from RB during tonight’s run:

“In the end, for me, it comes down to the work itself. A pro gets younger and more innocent as he or she ascends through the levels… It’s a paradox. We get salty and cynical, but we creep closer to the wonder. You have to or you can’t keep going. Any other motivation will burn you out.” —Steven Pressfield

“To follow a calling requires work. It’s hard. It hurts. It demands entering the pain-zone of effort, risk, and exposure.” — Derek Sivers

Ohhhh we’re half-way there….

“The part-way is where you find the wonder. It’s the ‘I am doing this. I get to do this! What a privilege, what a joy, what an honor!’ This is how it works. An ode to part-way says, this is all part of it and it is quite sacred and you are finding the wonder in the part-way. Remember when I used to dream about this? Now I’m doing it… and it’s really difficult. But, how awesome is this?! So what you are discovering is the extraordinary resources and depths of joy that are available when you come to see that even having something to throw yourself into is a privilege and an honor.

Psalm 118 — THIS is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice! Repeating this every day creates neural pathways that reshape us in new ways. It keeps you there. Grounded. Not giving up is at the center of everything. THIS. IS. THE. DAY. An ode to part-way … you might feel like giving up, or you could keep going. OR you could keep going. OR you could KEEP. GOING. And who know where this will take you! Thats the joy, the wonder, the awe of it all. To everyone who is part-way to the goal. THIS is the day! Stay at it…its worth it. There is something there!” — Rob Bell, An Ode to Part Way, Robcast #248, June 2019
