mutemath

Posted on Monday 4 July 2005 by Joshua

ok, so i was at this show this weekend. i saw seventh day slumber – they were awesome as usual. i love their heart for God, the love for the people at their concerts – every show i have been to, they just give so much life and hope. it is awesome… plus they rock. anyway, mutemath also played and they are simply amazing. firstly, the main guy (paul meany) plays a key-tar… yeah, you remember that from the 80s. they are so energetic and inventive. from the technoindustrial sounds to the vintage rhodes and amazing drummer, it was an awesome time. listen to them… i know you will like them.

i ended up boycotting the next act, because he/his team was treating the sound guys and concert organizer like crap – complaining about the sucky stage, not enough speakers, not enough lights, blah blah blah… this from someone who is billed as a worship leader and pulls up in a half million dollar bus. yeah, i have no tolerance for that kind of ego. especially since some of the other bands are also big names and they were gracious and flexible. i think you can tell alot about a person on how they treat the “little people.” anyway, i heard he later apologized, which is good. i guess news of his arrogance was spreading around. who knows.

i guess my thought about all that is, i know you need certain things to put on a good show, but honestly, if your main purpose is to use your talent and ability to glorify Jesus, i don’t think it matters if you have all the glitz and thump. if you are walking in your true calling and in obedience and surrender, i think God is going to honor that and bring glory to his name regardless. i think that this is one area of christian music that always grates on me… when people achieve some sort of stardom and forget the reason they do what they do. then maybe it is time to get out. just my 2 cents.

Josh, I was not trying to jump your case so please, if you think that i was, I apoligize. My point was to state that we are all human and selfish at times, myself incredibly included. And if we new all of the outrageous junk people in the “christian” scene pull, including leaders and pastors we would boycot 90% of them. But God still gives a great word through a sick man. Mr. Camp only proves our point of transparency. Please know I wasn’t expecting a defense, I just wanted you to maybe look at it a little different. That incident doesn’t make me like his music any less because it affected me before hand and it still does because it’s not him it’s God. Remember I think he’s a fashionable pretty boy. I love you man:)

eward – to defend your friend who got into the accident… simply because it was me … I needed the SUV for work – I haul lots of stuff and didn’t want the hassle of 2 weeks with a little Cavalier 2 door. Also, I was not trying to be a jerk to a non-profit organization whose main purpose is to inform people about the sanctity of life… I was trying to get an insurance company to be reasonable and fair with me, since they are often loathe to do so as you well have learned. And I agree with you that a superstar mentality for the christian artist is pretty ridiculous.

It is also possible that he apoligized because he saw the errors of his ways and truly felt sorry and he needed to repent and ask forgivness. This is not a low blow and I swear it’s not (but I think it is rather funny) but it shows how silly we all are. I have a really good friend who is kinda a coffee snob and he knows it. I bet if someone told him to go to a coffee shop because they had waiting for him some gormet coffee and he got there and it was folgers, he would be upset. I also have a friend who got in an accident and the opposite insurance company was going to give him a shady rental car and he requested that ” I am accustomed to an SUV”. Maybe this artist was accustomed to certain stage settings. Anyway, I don’t condone making demands especialy when you claim to be glorifying God in the midst of them. But we all need to grow in the ways of the Lord including big “christian” superstars. God sees them just like us, that’s why giving out an autograph as a christian artist is dumb. Wow what a rant, I better go to my own site. I love you man. MuteMath rules and stole the whole night and I felt sorry for the dude coming on after them. Big up to MuteMath!!!!!
