Yesterday was not what we like to call “ideal moving conditions.” It was about 20 with a strong wind making it feel like -48. Ok, I exaggerate a tad, but the point is, it was a chilly day to move. We did get quite a bit done on Friday, which was a much nicer day – sunny and in the high 30s. By 1 or so, we were loaded up pretty well – a 16′ trailer and a box truck. We got unloaded and went back for another load around 3ish. After some delicious Chinese food from the local Mandarin Kitchen, we were refueled for another round. This was the easy stuff – but more time consuming little things. We kept at it for pretty much the rest of the night. I didn’t get to bed until almost 2am. We still have to move all the stuff from the garage yet, so we have another trip to make there – then cleaning up the house and making sure it is in better condition that when we got it.
The new house is really nice. The kitchen is great. Today there was an ice storm and church was canceled so we stayed here and worked more on the house. Collin, Robert and I put up the ceiling in the bathroom and started mudding the drywall. We also hooked up the brand new, and uber-cool washer and dryer. They are all digital and work wonderfully. I was the first to do laundry in them. The basement area is shaping up for now. There is much to do to make it really nice, but at least it is livable for now. We just have to finish mudding the bathroom, sand it and finalize it so we can get it painted. Then set the fixtures, hand a door and trim it all out and we will be up and running. Then it is on to building walls for Robert’s room and after that, I will get started on my room. My temporary room is not too bad, and now that I have things more or less set up, I am feeling a bit less unsettled. Moving is hard, but change is good.
This past week in my life:
Monday: Packing at home, get materials for bathroom, get washer and dryer
Tuesday: Drywall bathroom walls, packing
Wednesday: Tile bathroom floor, pack, pick up table and chairs, move stuff to house
Thursday: pack, move stuff, assemble dining room table
Friday: Purchase fixtures for bathroom, electric for bathroom, insulate and stud ceiling, moving stuff
Saturday:Moving day
Sunday: Drywall bathroom ceiling, hookup washer and dryer, organize…..
I have taken almost 200 pictures this weekend, so here are just a few from the past few days.
My future room – looking toward the bathroom
Look! A window! My future room looking toward the light. Collin Robinson, mover and mason extraordinaire.
The bathroom as it was when we got the house.
Robert’s future room.
The kitchen, dining and living area.
The kitchen.
The bathroom after we put up the greenboard.
John Johnston, our tile guy, did a great job on our floor! All in one day.
Joshua puts the table base together.
Robert holds the key to the whole thing – a wrench.
Denny, Bean, Joshua and Ev at the new dining room table. We are all very tired in this picture…even the dog.
The ceiling… a few bumps, cuts and choice words here…
Robert’s room after we got his stuff in. Walls/closet/ceiling will come later.
Joshua’s temporary room of insanity. Pictures of organized coolness will come later.
Bathroom after ceiling is up.
Collin Robinson – now a drywaller extraordinare!
One morning we had a snow fog. Whatever that is. It was beautiful out…so ethereal.
Even in the midst of moving, you have to stop for a few minutes and get pulled down the driveway by the truck. I will miss this fun past time.
Wow, Josh, it is a beautiful house. You are all such hard workers. Make sure Denny takes it easy. Each change comes with so many positives – you will see. Your last home certainly gave you all joy too and now this home will give its own rewards.
Did I follow this right – Chinese food lasted you from 3pm until 2am the next morning? That’s pretty good stuff.
Awesome pictures! (As always)
I must say I laughed so very loud when I read the word UBER written by you Joshua Petrillo! Thank you so much for the giggles. I can’t wait to come see the house and how much you have done!
I hope to get some pictures of my soon too. I have all the trim done in the living room and the spare room is all painted.

Oh my… could you clean your room up a little bit? Those of us with ADD can’t handle even LOOKING at the picture!!!! AAGGGHHHHHHH!!!! (Seriously, I felt my stress level rise when I saw it) Awesome house… I can’t wait til you guys have me over! 🙂 hahaha!
I’m so glad you guys are closer to the camp. I can imagine it’s nice not making that long drive to the camp every day, rather just to the Forerunner Center twice a week. +3 for less traveling, and being able to come to the camp whenever you want. (Amazing that Robert was still late on Saturday. 😉 )
