Sara and Jake

“Mawwage. Mawwage is what bwings us here togevvah today. Mawwage… that bwessed awwaingment, the dweam within a dweam…” What wedding can you go to anymore without thinking of those classic lines from the Princess Bride?

This was a truly wonderful weekend. Took a drive 700 miles east to the mountains of NY to be a part of my sister’s wedding. She met a wonderful guy named Jake a couple years or so ago and on the 16th, was married to him surrounded by the beauty of a secluded (unspecified) mountain lake, the changing tress, and family and friends. We all hiked in the 1.7 miles and were blessed to be a part of this beautiful ceremony. It was a significant place because it is where we spent so much time as a family – hiking, camping, swimming. It is one of the places where we brought the ashes of my father. So in many ways on this perfect day, he was there — giving his stamp of approval on this union of his little princess and her man with a wink and a smile in that place we all loved to be together.

I gave them a big framed photo of them on a special rock that I took last year around the same time, and under it I put a quote by Dr. Seuss that said, “We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.” Yes, my sister is a little weird, so it is only right she finds someone who is her balance, haha! Seriously though, I love this Jake guy – he’s got a good head on his shoulders, is knowledgeable and experienced in a wide range of skills – from mechanics to ballistics; he can handle a chainsaw and is not afraid of getting dirty and working hard. He loves my sister and has stood with her through thick and thin. They have joined their two families together in this rambling lodge in the mountains and I know that they are going to have an exciting adventure doing this thing called life together.

Blessings to my sister, Sara, and my new brother-in-law, Jake, on this awesome day!
