Mom and I on a ledge above the beach in New London, CT last Christmas.
My Mom is a New Year’s baby. Then why, you might ask, are you writing this entry on January 2? Well, crazily enough, things have been … well, crazy. We had hundreds of people here for a time of worship which started Friday and ended saturday night… non-stop people and sound. It was amazing. But I digress.
I know it is from my Mom that I get my incredible sense of practicaly and ability to shop around for good deals. Like her mother before, Mom definitely is a bargain hunter. But Mom, the day you start sending me t-shirts that say I Heart NY…
Over the years, I have learned so much from watching my mom. She has always modeled servanthood. Throughout my entire life, I have seen this woman give of herself consistently, willingly and selflessly. I once said that she exemplified the Proverbs 31 woman, and I still believe that holds true. Mom is a lover of people. She takes time to listen to them. Really listen. And she genuinely cares about their well being. In watching her, I have learned to listen more and talk less.
There are, of course, many humorous stories that I could tell of my mom, as she has a very spacy side (which can and does counteract the rational side from time to time), but the best story that I can think of was the day way back in 1978 when Mom and I were sitting on the kitchen floor looking at a children’s picture Bible. I asked her about heaven and she led me to Jesus. My Mom’s faith has been such a tremendous support for not only me, but for many around her. I wish her the best of birthdays and blessings from the Lord. Love you Mom.
