Friday was a momentous day at Voice Ministries. Ever since we bought this property in 2001, we have joked about the big silver satellite dish mounted on the roof. We had take the smaller one down, but the big one remained. Many cults seems to have these huge dishes hanging around their properties, so we always said that when people drove in and saw that thing, coupled with what the misinformation they might have heard, they probably think… “What they heck are they doing back in those woods anyway?” Well they may still wonder that, but at least now… the dish is down. After some careful “figgerin’,” a trusty sawzall, a rope, 6 guys and a bucket loader, we were able to take it down. Bob and I were talking about it, and not only was that potentially negative “cult” symbolism gone, but also what it represented as the conduit of trash that used to flow through it into this place. I guess you could call it a cleansing – both spiritually and physically. Anyway, I for one am glad it is off. Now I am going to pull it apart and see if I can sell it for the stainless steel.
I guess I’m missing how a satellite dish == cult.
So… because you’re in a secluded location, and have a dish, that it makes you look like separatists of some sort? I know you’re all God-loving people at Voice, but there are a small handful of other things that might give me a cultish feeling before a big ol’ dish.
I guess I’ve never associated a big hunk of aluminum and steel with anything other than TV and data transfer. 🙂
nice work guys.
I’m with Bradley, I work here and I didn’t realize that the dish is what gave us cult status. But then, I always am the last to know stuff around here. Guess you figured it was best I didn’t know that information. By the way, the last picture looks like you captured a small space ship. You so could photo shop that one!
I know your whole plan…I still think you are a cult!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Just because you remove such a symbol of who you really are doesn’t hide you…deceivers…; lol
