We received a truckload of food the other day for the Joseph Storehouse, our food outreach ministry. As I drove into the kitchen on my scooter, Gary, one of the guys who works for Voice, looked at me and said, “Hey Josh, come here for a sec.” He then proceded to jump off the forklift (or tow-motor, as they all call it) and show me how it worked. I have never driven one before so this was a new experience for me. The thing turns on a dime and it is very important to watch the long front forks (they will slice through drywall like a knife through warm butter) and the back bumper (also capable of putting large, difficult to fix holes in the walls). Anyway, I took it nice and slow and unloaded the many skids from the truck. It was pretty cool to drive it (it’s brand new, essentially), and now I feel much better about accomplishing something new. It’s definitely a handy thing to have around at the ministry center.
Wow Joshua, I though there wasn’t too mush you have not done! They are fun, I have driven one for a couple of years not lately
I am so proud of you! Not only do you already have “lawn guy” on your resume, you can now add “forklift operator” to the list. I hear institutions really like diversity.
Little known fact that will shock and surprise…I am an experienced and, dare I say, rather good forklift driver. Ask my hubby, he will confirm it. I drove one regularly when we owned our sheet metal fabrication business. Shocking, isn’t it?
Very cool. I’ve never driven one but, if I remember right, Benjamin Shank is an excellent fork-lift driver. You’re movin’ up in the ranks Mr. Petrillo!
