Life with the Beater Beamer

Posted on Tuesday 14 February 2006Tuesday 14 February 2006 by Joshua

“A BMW??? YOU DRIVE A BMW???!!!” These were the words uttered by a girl who runs the cashier at 7 Eleven. She’s cool and friendly, but I don’t know her very well. I just laughed and said that I got a good deal on it. “Well, you must be doing pretty well. That thing looks brand new!” I told her it was a 95 with a ton of miles on it. I also told her what I paid for it and she goes, “What!? Did you get it from a drug dealer?!” It was a funny conversation to be sure. So the other day, I came in (driving the big GMC Voice truck) and my keys fell on the counter. She was there and laughed. “I always laugh when I see that key,” she said. So even the 7 Eleven girl still thinks I am rich because I drive a BMW, it’s really just a beater car. It drives pretty nice and runs real smooth most of the time, but random and unusual things just happen from time to time. Here’s a sample:

One day, I was washing my car. As I pulled out of the new Hose-n-Go on SR 19, I got out of the car to make sure the automated car wash did a good job. I noticed that one of the front marker lights was just hanging out of it’s place by the wires. I guess it had been just sitting in there… all the screws that normally hold it in are broken as are the brackets.

Then on the second day I had it, someone shut the back door and the interior rear window pillar panel just fell off and into the seat.

Of course who could miss the cheerful chirping sound that the heater fan makes on the 1 & 2 settings… but not 3 or 4.

One day I went to open the back door and noticed that the trim around the door handle (which was there…) had mysteriously disappeared. I have no idea how or where, but it was gone.

Yesterday’s event rounds off my fun list. As I rolled down the passenger side window (it has a very nice auto down and auto up function) it just fell off the track and clunked inside the door. There was just this little point sticking up. Thankfully it did not break and I was able to get it put back up. I think I need to take it in.

So, yes, I do drive a BMW… but even though she looks pretty good, she needs a few things here and there. That’s the fun thing about owning an old car with tons of miles… You never know what will happen next.

Haha, good stuff man…amazing how much stereotypes and f”group think” can cause a misunderstanding even about a car. “Its a BMW, it must be the best car ever without any problems and only for rich people.” A car is a car, and will have problems…even if its a HONDA!lol

TMN… help me out, who are you? Believe me, I was seriously thinking about a scooter when gas prices were so high, but this car is pretty decent on gas. Besides… I like having the experience of having driver such a wide spectrum of vehicles over the past 17 years of my driving experience. At 20+ cars, that’s slightly over 1 a year!

TMN…your right josh’s driving record does not say positive things about him. Josh….why don’t you buy a better car in hopes to keep it longer…or do you suppose you’ll crash it before 2 yrs are up?

That makes me feel a lot better… Rick said that he put my LEXI through the car wash and the dryers pulled the side pieces off…now I have to glue them… my passenger window doesn’t go down yet when I drive or just windy, it squeals because it’s open JUST enough to have some air pass through it… hmmmm…what else, the rear defrost doesn’t work… but I drive a Lexus… I had someone in my car the other day and they said they felt like they were in an old persons car…I said, ” Well, it was a luxury car…in it’s day!” They said, “It was?” Haha! Any suggestions on what I should do with the backseat headthingy? the leather is off and they tried to put electrical tape on it…is there anything nicer I can do? Thanks for putting my new license plates on yesterday! 🙂 Your a gem! 🙂
