Less Skin Than a Plumber Shows

Posted on Monday 4 February 2008 by Joshua

“On Saturday, police in Virginia Beach (VA) seized two promotional posters from an Abercrombie & Fitch store and have cited the manager of the store with an obscenity charge. “One [of the posters] shows a group of shirtless male models and one has his jeans low enough to show a part of his buttocks.” “The other image is of a woman who is topless and whose ‘breast is displayed with her hand covering just the nipple portion.'”” The charges against the store manager have been dropped. They decided that the pictures were inappropriate, but did not fall under the classification of obscenity.

Naturally, A&F issued a statement: “The marketing images in question show less skin than you see any summer day at the beach. And certainly less than the plumber working on your kitchen sink. This is an incredible over-reaction by city officials that would be comical except for its potentially serious legal implications. We will pursue our legal rights aggressively and fully expect to prevail.” — Tom Lennox, Vice President of Corporate Communications.

No other A&F store in the country was asked to take down their photos. Perhaps they should have been.

A and F’s comment is probably true (images in question show less skin than you see any summer day at the beach). Hello! Does anyone else see the problem here? Mass marketed stupidity begets…. mass displayed stupidity.

I was in the UP mall a few weeks ago and saw the poster of the men running. It’s right there in their doorway, you can’t miss it even if your not entering the store. Everyone, including children can see it. I did point it out to my husband and told him that I was offended at it. And I’m sorry, but most of his rear was showing, not just a bit. Major crackage! You may find it humorous to know that we were in the mall looking for a belt for Max’s jeans. So now you all know where I stand on the issue of behinds peeping above saggy jeans!

As Dave always says, “Crack is illegal in all fifty states.”

I don’t know but it seems like such a silly thing to get upset about. Are Puritan Roots are showing !

I personally hate the store and walk on the opposit side of the mall from where it is. The smell of the place and the photos make me want to vomit! So, thats how I feel about it! 🙂
