Kids are Fun

Posted on Wednesday 7 May 2003 by Joshua

So I go outside to take a 10 minute break away from my screen and I get accosted by three kids… ages maybe 5, 6 and 8 [two boys and a girl]. They wanted to play, so I agreed. Now if you have ever read Calvin and Hobbes, that should give you an idea of what kind of games we were playing basically based off of adult sports with none of the rules and all of the exceptions. So it ended up being a combination of tag/soccer/football [with a softball and some lawn chairs throw in to make it interesting] and all of them against me. There was a great deal of running and shouting [mostly by me] and lots of tackling and grabbing my shirt [mostly by them]. So my nice red medium polo is now a red, brown and green spotted XL.

But kids are great. They would get together [with very serious voices] in their little huddle and while I was laying gasping on the grass like a fish out of water, they were saying “ok, now I’ll throw the ball to him and you run past him and I will grab his legs and then he’ll throw it to you and she can run it to the goal.”

Then after that we ended up playing this other game where i chased them around this huge field. I realized that there is no way I have that kind of energy to keep up with three kids that age. But hey, I do that everyday and I might have hit upon a new excercise plan.
