Irony

Posted on Tuesday 4 March 2008 by Joshua

I just saw a commercial for Diet Coke supporting healthy heart. Does anyone else see any irony in that?  Diet Coke is full of all kinds of fun and exciting chemicals… In fact, did you know that “Over the long term, the effects of sodas are devastating to the body. Acidity, sugars and artificial sweeteners can shorten your life. In fact, it takes 32 glasses of alkaline water at a pH of 9 to neutralize the acid from one 12 oz. cola or soda.”

Next thing we will be seeing is ads from Camel cigarettes promoting the American Lung Association.

The other day Taryn (my friend who just had a baby) had an incredible headache all day that she couldn’t get rid of. Adam, her husband gave her a coke and it took the headache away!

well, whether you think it is over-all healthy, a Diet Coke IS healthier than a regular POP (not “soda” ;). To even compare cigs to diet coke is like comparing apples and oranges…Cigs are SOOO much more unhealthy for you than a diet coke. If you want to be picky about healthy versus not, NOTHING is fully healthy…even all that is NOT produced. The earth is dying, we are dying, and therefore everything we eat/drink is working to that end. (physically, of course) So, we need to choose things that are within a balance of health…and I would say Diet Coke is a good “healthy” choice in that arena….Mr coffee drinker!lol

i saw that too! i couldn’t believe it! Caffeine itself isn’t good for your heart, much less any of the other junk!!!

I response to the headache: I was frustrated that it appeared to “cure” the headache.
I’m also confused about why Diet Coke is a better health choice than regular POP…

The biggest one is NO calories…versus 160 in a typical pop. I know I lost weight when I switched several years ago. Aspartame is always linked to cancer (at least scientists admittedly say only in insane doses)which has really not been close to proven, especially since it only came to us in 1969 with little research until the craze of health in the last couple decades. Ironically, if you want what HAS been linked more conclusively to cancer….STRESS. So, I think the STRESS that people go through to make sure every meal is completely healthy and they are up to date on all the latest health news are causing more risk for cancer than drinking a few Diet Cokes.haha I laugh, but there is some seriousness there…but we don’t want to talk about how the workaholics and stress of no relationships in our country are causes for disease…we rather put all the weight on something else….everything in moderation…even having a cigar once in a while is not “unhealthy” in the grand scheme of things….

Now, if you want something better than Diet Coke…get Caffeine Free Diet Coke.lol that is even a step healthier from Diet Coke.

It is ironic to me to see so many “Christians” stubbornly deny “science’s” claims on earth and creation, but so EASILY except that SAME science when it is applied to nutrition or some other seemingly “minor” subject….just a thought…it reveals a deeper disease than cancer, in my opinion. :O

what scientific claims are you talking about that christians deny?

  15. Casey says:

Big Bang, Evolution…I am not saying I agree, but most “Christians” I encounter “debating” about these subjects just out right deny scientific claims, but don’t even engage in the “science” of it JUST because it is “science.” Lines like, “There is no evidence for Big Bang/Evolution….” etc but when they are questioned they know little of what the claims of evidence even ARE.lol I state my experience with the broader “Christian” world.

Just another small thought…what other drink, besides water, is AS healthy or better than Diet Coke? Drinking Orange Juice, Cranberry…etc are ALL filled with TONS of Sugar. So, unless one plans on only drinking water, Diet Coke is not a bad other choice, in my opinion.

well casey, there are good drinks aplenty in your local health food store. that means you will have to venture out of the mainstream and into some of the locally owned and operated healthy eating establishments, but i assure you, there are tons of super healthy non sugar containing drinks. in fact, one of my favorite summertime drinks is lakewood lemonade. no sugar, but still amazingly sweet thanks to a little organic product called agave nectar. true all-natural juices are fine as long as they have no added sugar. and… what’s wrong with drinking water? according to the mayo clinic, we lose about 2 litres of fluid a day, but it is healthy to drink 3 liters of fluids a day.

    i liked this guys take:

“Seriously, though: Diet Coke is a nutritional void. Human bodies evolved to make use of a variety of foods, but I doubt isolated versions of phosphoric acid, etc., are among them. And aspartame, aka Nutrasweet, may cause active damage.”

Well, I would also state that shopping at places like Whole Foods for everything Organic is also pretty COSTLY. We have friends here that shop organic only…etc..their bill is twice ours. If it were really that big of a deal, I would say it is worth it to pay twice as much….still don’t think it is been shown that it is that big of a deal…UNLESS one consumes great quantities AND doesn’t exercise.

In response to Article: Lettuce is a Nutritional void as well…takes more to burn it than it gives to the body.

Again, the point here being: Moderation: Diet Coke is the not the issue…what REALLY is the issue???…that is why I am fighting this a bunch 😉 People get so hung up on Oh, Eminem is so crude, Diet Coke is so unhealthy, Clinton is the Anti-Christ….Jesus did not concern Himself with those things as a daily life. I doubt Jesus ate only “Healthy” foods.lol Like I said before, NOTHING, by definition, is ultimately healthy in a world that is decomposing.

Jesus spent most of his life in and around the farming village area of Nazareth. Similar to many farming villages throughout the world, life was patterned after traditions, roles and rituals passed down from many generations beforehand.

·Food: The woman’s daily job included preparing food for her family – for example, they would grind grain, (bake bread), (milk) the animals, and make (cheese). Typically a family ate two meals: Breakfast – light or small amounts of food taken to work; and Dinner – A large meal with (cheese), wine, vegetables and (fruits), and (eggs). As for meat, fish was most common, followed by chicken or fowl. Red meat (beef and lamb) was served only on special occasions, and pork and crustaceans were absolutely forbidden. Most foods were boiled or stewed in a big pot and seasoned with (salt), onions, garlic, cumin, coriander, mint, dill, and mustard. Food was sweetened with wild (honey) or syrups from dates or grapes. Food was generally served in a common bowl and eaten by dipping in with the fingers.

Brackets are around “foods” that would not be considered “healthy” in our day. Granted, that “menu” is definitely “healthier” than a typical diet here in America, but still not the best.

eminem was crude…how is that even debateable? clinton is anti-christ because she is anti-life. again, not a debateable issue. the facts speak for themselves.

milk and cheese was goat… not usually cow. as a whole, the culture ate healthier fare as it was free of insecticides and chemicals. disease was a different issue, i would imagine. but i am certain jesus ate far healthier than we do.

as for shopping at whole foods, i love that store! and when it comes right down to it, when you start cutting out alot of the junk stuff you bought before (mcdonalds, nutty bars, venti cappuccinos etc.) and when you change your lifestyle, you find that you can afford it after all. do you realize how prevalent diabetes is in our culture today? seriously, it is ridiculous. that disease had never been heard of before sugar came on the scene. now even kids are getting it.

my question is why are you so antagonistic toward healthy eating thus properly stewarding the body that God gave you? thus far, most of your comments have been defending your sacred diet coke… are they paying you? hahaha!

Again, you completely missed the point which is WHY I am fighting it. I am not fighting “healthy” lifestyle…I am fighting a consistent desire for people to FOCUS (not just talk about) the stuff in life that isn’t SUPPOSE to be the focus. If you were to reread above, I never said Eminem and Clinton were good…again reread. I said, FOCUSING on them and talking about them all the time is JUST AS BAD and actually GIVES it/them POWER….ahh, there is the point.

I also said, their culture was healthier than ours…Again, reread. I was saying that Jesus didn’t FOCUS on “healthy eating”….NOR POLITICS! (oh no)

I will leave it at this: the fact that you responded the way you did makes my whole point more valid. I would suggest rereading my thoughts and then ask, “what point is Casey trying to make?” I have actually said it pretty clear in this entry….I love you Joshy!
