As is my annual custom, I take my imaginary trip to Ireland and let you all in on my day. Today dawned bright and clear, and the amazing blue sky and warm sun added to the fact that it was just a great day to be in Ireland. I did some reading on the banks of the River Shannon and checked out King John’s Castle in Limerick City. The Castle was built between 1200 and 1210. I read a bit about it in a guide book and noted that that castle was “repaired and extended many times over the following centuries. King John’s Castle remains a most impressive Anglo-Norman fortification. It retains many of the pioneering features which made its construction unique for its day.” Interestingly enough, “King John, as “Lord of Ireland”, minted his own coins and the Royal moneyer would have struck the coins in the Castle Mint.” I found it simply wonderful and was so glad to have the chance to relax today. (Remember, I said this is imaginary!) Anyway, to all of you dear readers, enjoy the green for it is a reminder of the coming spring, of life and love and many more sunny days.
“When Irish eyes are smiling,
Tis like a morn in spring.
With a lilt of Irish laughter
You can hear the angels sing
When Irish hearts are happy
All the world is bright and gay
When Irish eyes are smiling
Sure, they steal your heart away.”
I love this tradition!
Thanks for posting! I am glad I reminded you! hehehehe! Night!
Imaginary? All of these years I actually believed that at least one of them was real. And I am not joking!
Josh I was waiting to see if you would post your St Patty’s Day post but gave up and went to bed last night. Your trip this year sounded like so much fun….Grandma and I actually saw the castle
