I Say!

Posted on Thursday 19 March 2009 by Joshua

Does anyone else think that Congress is being slightly hypocritical in expressing their outrage over the AIG bonuses? For many years we have seen the excesses of big government, the perks and pork. Suddenly, because the country is in a tight spot financially, the misuse of the tax payer money is a hot button issue. Now, it is not ok to play fast and loose with taxpayer money… because it is not the government doing it, but private citizens. For me it is feigned outrage – “How dare they take big bonuses and be wasteful with tax payer money. How dare they buy corporate jets and lavish vacations. How dare they remodel their offices and buy $10,000 rugs.” It all smacks of hypocrisy when, for so long, elected officials have been taking tax payer money and doing the same type of things only on a much larger scale. I dunno… it just seems funny to me to see all their outrage, when, truth be told, they are not the ones shouldering the burden of all this superfluous spending. It is the little people – the John and Jane Publics who deal with this reality every day.
