Hug from Dad

Posted on Sunday 8 December 2019Sunday 8 December 2019 by Joshua

Some years ago, whilst I was still in college, I came home for Christmas as always. That Christmas, a rare thing happened. Dad went shopping and bought something for each of us and presented it personally. Normally, Mom took care of the Christmas shopping and wrapping and such, but this year was different. When we were unwrapping the gifts, Dad got his out and gave them to each of us with an explanation of the meaning. Mine was a tan woolen scarf. He said, “I am giving you this scarf so that every time you put it on, you will remember that I am always with you and to remind you of how much i love you.” All these year later, I still have it. I call it a “hug from Dad.” Since he is not around [the physical plane] any more, it’s meaningful to have something that has both a beautiful memory and a tangible sense of him. I don’t recall what Matt and Sara got, but this was very impactful to me.

I was sharing this story with Sara a few weeks ago and thought I would write it down and share it.
