Sometimes I look at all the craziness going on in my nation and think to myself, “I never thought I would see days like this.” We are polarized, bigoted, racist, violent, perverse and corruption is commonplace. We feel disenfranchised by our leaders and many think we are on a course that can not be turned around. Despite all this, I look at history and see that we have not experienced some of the horrors that other nations have — like the Holocaust, severe famine, or the Rwandan genocide. I read the scriptures and see exhortations by Paul and Peter who lived under the despicably evil Emperor Nero. They experienced truly terrible things. The Prophet Jeremiah details the destruction of Jerusalem in the book of Lamentations and writes a poetically graphic account of the tragedy. After seeing [and experiencing] all of that, he says this at the end of chapter 3, [to which I speak over our nation]: “Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this — the unfailing love of the Lord never ends! By His mercies we have been kept from complete destruction. Great is His faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each day. I say to myself, The Lord is my inheritance, therefore I will hope in Him! The Lord is wonderfully good to those who wait for Him and seek Him. So it is good to wait quietly for our salvation!”
Seek the Lord while He may be found. He is the rock on which all HOPE is built.
