Hezekiah

This afternoon I held a new baby in my arms. The wonder of new life never ceases to shake my head in amazement. Those big dark eyes, half open but watching me, not yet comprehending this vast new world. Just hours old, with beautiful little fingers and finger nails, he opens his mouth to yawn and he has no teeth yet – just little gums. He gets swaddled up like a burrito and begins to fall asleep. I am so full of wonder at this little human — and that I have the honor and privilege to share in his life and be an example of the good things I hope he becomes. I marvel at the amazing complexity of the creation of God, and how He orchestrates the ushering in of new life. I pray that this little one will grow in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and those around him.

His name is Hezekiah (God is my strength) Lee (meadow or clearing) Joseph (God shall give increase). There’s this place where I grew up where you would walk in the woods for a long time, hiking up a mountain trail, through rocks and streams and tall trees. Suddenly you would come out of the trees and into this small open meadow with wildflowers and tall grasses and the sun would be shining and the warmth would hit you and feel so amazing. Sometimes you have to come to a clearing in the woods to see the sun! And so it is with God… He is our strength, and you knows He is with you, but then you come to the clearing, and wow… there He is in all of His radiance! And there He gives the increase, because we have encountered HIs glory. Now that’s a good name!

Brittany and Robert, you are blessed and highly favored to steward the life of Ezekiel and now Hezekiah. I can’t wait to see how Hezekiah grows and how these two brothers grow up together! May the Lord bless your family as you seek to follow Him!
