Here’s the story: I am walking up the stairs behind this girl. An envelope falls out of the stack of stuff she is carrying, I pick it up and hand it to her as she realizes it fell. She says, “Thank you, I’m sorry.” I say “you are welcome.” So the question of the day is… Why do people apologize for stuff that they don’t need to apologize for? I have had people apologize to me for holding the door for them! I don’t understand it. Do they think it is an inconvenience for others to be civil? Seriously folks, what is wrong with a simple thank you? There is no need to apologize for dropping something near a person, that’s for sure.
The other funny thing that people do (and I do this all the time) is when someone does say “thank you” and I respond with “no problem.” Whatever happened to a simple “you’re welcome” or “my pleasure” ?
