Today is the birthday of Evelyn Rogers, the matriarch of the family with whom I live. Anyone who knows Ev knows that she is quite a character. Sometimes retail can be a pretty thankless industry, and I am sure there are many days she wonders why she still works at Sears, but I admire and respect the fact that she works so hard so that the family can have insurance and how much this job helps provide for the family.
Ev is a devoted wife and loves Denny dearly. Anytime she gets up in front of the church or at the Thanksgiving dinner table, she can’t make it through talking about “her man” without crying because of the love she has for him. She’s an opinionated one, that’s for sure, but we often talk about how God has changed each of us, and she’s the first to say that the Lord is always doing a work in her life! I always enjoy when we can actually both have a few moments to chat, because there is always a new story or interesting thing I learn that I did not know before. The thing I love about Ev is that she will tell you what she thinks! Of course, living here, I get to see and hear the goofy side of her, and watch her antics, and it is often very funny. In fact the other day she was pulling a Robert at the dinner table in a most shocking way… I won’t go into detail, but you can just ask Candy about that one!
The best thing is that Ev has a desire for Jesus and loves him with all her heart. Whenever she can be at the Horizon Center on Sunday morning, you will find her at the front of the auditorium, a tabret or flag in each hand, dancing before the Lord with her shoes off. I know that God is pleased with her devotion and expression of joy! I’ll tell you what… just stay out of her way when the spirit is moving!
So, join with me in wishing Evelyn a very happy birthday today and pray that the Lord would continue to bless her in all she does and for who she is!
Happy Birthday Grandma! You are a character indeed! Should I indulge the readers and reveal the secretive actions at the dinner table? … maybe not this time. You’re lucky! Thank-you for being who you are and doing all you do for our family. Your heart and love for Jesus and Grandpa are truly inspiring to me. I love you!
