Working outside – even in the crazy humidity we have had this week – really brings me such satisfaction and joy. Today I had the opportunity to run a Bobcat at the Camp – it’s on loan from an awesome local businessman. Anyway, I was able to accomplish so many things with it that I have had on my to do list for so long. Having a powerful tool that is able to do things that I simply don’t have the ability to do by hand is such a blessing. I was thinking about it, and I think if I could do anything else it would be to be the head caretaker of a large estate. Yup. I think I could really enjoy that. Being outside, sweating, getting my hands dirty, breathing the fresh air…yeah. It would be better if this estate had a large lake as well as a short winter season (since I am dreaming a little here) with a beautiful mountain view. Oh yeah, and a good budget so I could have good equipment to use!
Seriously though, I believe that my family are outdoor nuts. Dad for sure – the original mountain man – Adirondack Jim, storyteller extraordinaire – he was the one who instilled it in all of us. We always went hiking and camping as a family up in the mountains. Of course, Sara’s work is mainly outside, and her husband Jake is the outdoor guru. Matt’s work is on submarines, but he is always working outside in the yard – cutting down things, landscaping and generally annoying the neighbors. And of course, you know I am loving the fact we have 22 acres of land to keep up. That leaves Mom… and her work is with people every day. But I know she loves being outside, on the patio or up at Sara’s at the lodge. It’s healthy — we were created to be outside. Man was placed in a garden at the beginning, after all. I guess when it comes down to it, I don’t have a grid for those who love to veg in front of a squawk box for hours on end… Ugh. Give me some big open skies and a nearby forest with a winding crick… I have too much to do before the night comes…
“These woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.”
WORD!! I LOVE working outside!! If I had what you described with fenced pastures and horses– perfecto!! hahaha. Chad’s dream was to get a bobcat. I don’t know if they use power equipment in heaven, but if they do I am quite certain he has a Bobcat AND a Kubota with the loader and the scoop bucket, brush hog and post hole digger attachments–lol. Gotta love being a people who like to work!!
Everything you described is Colorado….you should give it a try…:)
