As I stood at the Daily Grind this morning, getting my soy, no-whip, caramel hot chocolate, topped with chocolate drizzle and a sprinkling of cinnamon, the man next to me paid for his coffee with one of those new George Washington dollar coins. “The bank had a whole bunch of ’em!” he stated, as the cashier examined the shiny coin to see if it was legit. We all stood there staring at it, as if in awe. “Hey, do you have any more?” I asked the guy. “I’ll buy trade you a Washington bill for a Washington coin.” He flipped one at me and I slid him a bill. It was all so slick and I felt so suave. Writing that now, I feel cheesy. But at the time I imagined it looked pretty cool to a random observer. Whether or not these coins will actually replace the $1 bill I can’t predict, but for me, getting new currency is always such fun. So be on the lookout for these new golden Georges.
I like the new picture. + that was very James Bond of you. I stand impressed.
you should have just asked Ed. He had 15 of them. He was so excited. I think you both are weird.
a coin will never replace a dollar bill… you can’t tip a stripper with coins. that would just be rude.
Hey Josh,
check your coins I just heard today on the radio that if you get ones without In God We Trust there are collectables. It seems there were some done in error at the Philadelphia mint.
Just make sure they aren’t chocolate. I managed to hear complaints about chocolate being smeared in pants pockets this passed Chanukah when someone was passing out chocolate to those thinking it was money. When it doubt pinch it between your teeth. I like the sauveness of it – sweet.
Beware the chocolate…
Actually, I have one that does not say “In God We Trust” on them. Neither does the one Josh has photographed, if I’m not mistaken. Heard anything on this, Josh? I’m curious.
“In God We Trust” is actually printed on the edge of most of the coins. There are about 50,000 or so that did not have it printed on the edge, thus they are more “rare” but not super valuable from what I hear.
See, this I did not know. Upon further investigation, it actually does have “In God We Trust”. Thanks for the clarification! 🙂
