fuel rants

Posted on Friday 22 April 2005 by Joshua

Ok. someone explain to me how yesterday, I paid $2.05 for fuel in the morning, and last night the price suddenly decided to go up to $2.25. What is that?! It is the exact same gas in the tank. It’s not new gas. There hasn’t been a fuel truck pumping in the new $2.25 gas. I don’t understand this concept at all. If the price went up because it was new and improved or if it had mileage boosting additives then i might see the point of the price fluctuation. But when they sell me the exact same gas for a higher price 8 hours later, that is just retarded. As Jason just commented to me… are we not winning this war over there? Why are these prices so high? This is not Europe for heaven’s sake. If I wanted to pay $5 for a gallon of gas, at least I could be living in Rome and enjoying all the cool art and driving a Mini.

And what’s the deal with prepay pumps? I know they are worried about people stealing gas. With these prices, I am not surprised. So, If I want to get a hot chocolate or some candy, I have to go inside, pay the guy for the prepay gas, and then go back outside, pump the gas, go back inside buy the candy or drink. I suppose I could do all of that at the same time, to make it easier on myself, but why don’t they design gas stations so they can actually see all the pumps? I don’t know what it is, but the whole prepay thing irritates me. And I know I am not alone as I have seen people try to pump their gas and get the, “pump 5 is prepay sir. you gotta come inside and pay.” At which point they get all mad and drive away. It is rather funny.

Then there is the “I am in a hurry so I am just going to use my debit card at the pump and get out ASAP.” So I pump the gas and reach for the receipt. Wait, It didn’t print. I have to now, go inside, which is what I was trying NOT TO DO IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Ok, enough of that. I think I need an solar powered car. Ah wait… it is raining today. I don’t think I would get very far. How about a wind car. God knows I have enough hot air to power it.

    Here’s a rant:
We get 0% of our gas from Iraq. The same as before the war. I love you Josh, but GET A LIFE. Tired of that Iraq war crap, even if it’s a joke. You look ignorant, and it pisses me off because you’re so stinking smart! You once told me that we went to Iraq for oil. Now gas prices are UP! GEEEEZ!

OK, this part is informative, not condescending like the previous:

With 300 million people buying gasoline in America, it’s *not* the same gas. The turnaround for a barrel of oil is very quick.

It’s just like walking into Red Lobster and eating fresh seafood. You get the market rate. Not the price they paid for the lobster you’re going to eat–the market rate.

For the record, it’s $1.99 here. So it’s about the same as Indiana–I paid $2.05 the other day.

Receipts not printing at the pump–that’s another issue. I’m about ready to boycott BP because of it, and I hate boycotts.

So I’m standing in a line of maybe 4 people at Stewarts waiting to pay for milk and the man in front says to the clerk, “I got gas.” The clerk looks at him and says, “That’s ok, it happens to all of us from time to time.” The people in line have now clamped their mouths shut to keep in the giggles while the man walks out with a very red neck.

    yeah!!!! let ’em have it!!!!

I hate gas… moreover, I now live farther away from school and have to go there two or three times a day… this is not cool.
