I am not one for fishing. The very thought of pulling an innocent fish from the water with a hook in it’s jaw and then holding it aloft as it gasps for it’s life always seemed a bit cruel to me. Perhaps I have disney-fied the fish to the point of absurdity (as do most animal rights activists not that I am one for I thoroughly enjoy eating them), but nonetheless, I have never cared much for the act of fishing (or hunting for that matter). Anyway, last night, after having explained all this to Deanna Deering, Bob and Robert were there fishing. And they caught one with kernals of corn on a hook. This was unique to me so I watched. Suddenly, Bob says, here, the next one is yours. And hands me this pole. And just as suddenly, BAM! A fish hits the thing and takes off. Of course I am reeling this thing in furiously. I have no experience to speak of, so I am just going at it. I finally get this thing close to the shore and Caleb (he’s 5) grabs the net and brings it in. So there we are. I now have this huge fish which of course is rapidly opening and closing it’s mouth. Bob gets the hook out and we take a picture. I really had no desire to hold it, so I just let him handle it. I will say, that the fish was returned to the pond unharmed. It was about an 8lb Carp. So that’s my fish story for the day. This entry is definitely dedicated to my friend Kaycee Knight, the biggest fish lover that I know.
“It’s Ok to eat fish, cause they, don’t have any feelings” – Kurt Cobain from the song “Something in the way”
Hope you are well, I can’t wait to see you. Have a great day! Hugs and Love, Darc-
I love the thrill of the wrestling and reeling in but outside of that my heart breaks for the little guy once I see him gasping for air and knowing he has to go nurse this gaping hole in his lip and cheek….. 🙂
Can you imagine being a fish?
I could never get into fishing either, I remember i was 5 when I caught my first and only fish I think it was a sun fish at Cranberry Pond in Grafton . I know I would be a vegan if I had to kill my food. I’m with ur mom and rather take a nice boat ride or just hang out on the water.
Looks like you had fun and that is what counts. Fishing and worms and slippery, cold fish and moi just don’t come togehter but going out on a boat in a lake in a rowboat or sitting onshore at sunset – well that’s another thing. Great day! 🙂
yea, thanks for the dedication…but ew eeww EEEEWWWW! i just don’t get it.
