What a beautiful bunch of days it’s been lately. The leaves are vibrant colors of reds and golds contrasting with those cobalt skies with wispy streaks of clouds. The cool evenings and warm sunny days … Fall is certainly here. It’s hoodie weather and prime time for roasting marshmallows over the fire. My family came to visit me last weekend – Mom, Sara, Ryan, Kayli and Rhea all drove 12 hours from NY to spend a few days here in the cornfields. It was really awesome getting to hang out with them all. We really didn’t do a whole lot, but I think we were all able to just relax and enjoy being together. I know I was really excited that they came – for Mom and Ryan it has been 4 years, for Sara it was when I graduated in 1995. The girls had never been here so it was a new experience for them. I discovered that Mom is not bad at cornhole, that Rhea is a monkey, Ryan is a wealth of factual knowledge, and Kayli is one of the few people Denny has allowed to work in his kitchen! I also realized that I have been in a charismatic church too long, for when Mom fell over in her chair, I didn’t even move having thought she had been slain in the spirit. All in all, it was really good to see them and everyone was so excited to meet members of my family.
It was a very awsome time spent! I am sorry it wasn’t longer. Like Josh, I didn’t think anything about Barb falling over either! I hope we didn’t scare them away. I would like to see Sara carve something!!!
Wait. Barb fell over? Your mom? Where? At church?
Oh, man, the charismatic comment had me laughing.
Man…I wish we would have been there to see them a bit. I’m glad you had a great time!
+1 for cornhole.
