Evan Almighty

Posted on Sunday 14 October 2007 by Joshua

When I first heard about this movie, I thought it was going to be the cheesiest thing ever. But Robert wanted to rent it the other day, so I said… well Michael Scott is in it, so let’s see… plus it is PG and I heard it was clean. This movie was really funny. I enjoyed it. What;s really funny about it was the fact that there were profound little truths all throughout the movie. Lessons of faith – how many of us would build an ark in the middle of a subdivision today because the Lord said so? People mocked him and laughed at the foolhardiness of doing such a ridiculous thing, but he persisted. Sounds like the story of Noah revisited. My favorite part was when he asked “God” (Morgan Freeman) why he had to do this insane thing, and he just looked at him and said, “Because I love you.” The other part was when “God” visits the wife in a restaurant and starts talking to her about faith and prayer. We ask for closeness of family, he said, and does God give us that immediately, or does he give you opportunities to have closeness? We ask for faith or strength, but does he give you strength and faith, or the opportuntity to strengthen your faith. Good stuff to think on.

Part B of why I like this movie was the fact that throughout the making of this film, they desired to be green. This meant that the steel and cedar ark (actually 450′ long) was melted down and the money donated to Habitat for Humanity, the wood donated to Habitat. The houses in the subdivision built as sets were also torn down in ways that all material could be salvaged and donated to Habitat. They desired to leave everything as it was (or better).

I know it got horrible reviews for being cheesmo, and alot of it was, but hey, it’s not always easy finding a decent movie you can site and watch without having to fast forward everything or give up on half-way through.

The Starks saw this in theatres…we’ll have to rent it.
As for giving up half way: that’s what we did with our last experience of Michael Scott…Sorry we ever got you interested in The Office. It was OTAPE in action (for us).

i loved this little ditty. there was so much we got out of it….but we were also starved for profound revelation. God is good. He is soo soo good.
