Erin Go Braugh

Irish Josh 06

Well, once again I took my annual fictitious trip to the Emerald Isle. This time I visited Ashford Castle in County Mayo – a great trip to be sure. Rumor has it that Mom, Kevin and others are supposed to be going over there sometime, so maybe next year I will have a picture of all of the Hamrogues in front of these famous sites. At any rate, Here’s a bit of information on the meaning of Erin Go Braugh for your St. Patrick’s day trivia.Quite literally, it means “Ireland Forever.” In some instances, this also has a relgious context to it. “Ireland forever” … until the Coming of the Lord. Catholics believe, as do many other Christians, that Jesus Christ will return again on the Last Day. So in other words, “Ireland forever until Jesus comes in Glory.” Of course there is plenty of conjecture as to the original Gaelic meaning of the word – It could be Ireland the Beautiful, Ireland the Free, or Ireland the Excellent. In any event, Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Níl aon tintéan mar do thintéan féin. There’s no place like home.

Ní hé lá na gaoithe lá na scolb. A windy day is not the day to be fixing your thatch (roof).

Meallan muilte Dé go mall ach meallan siad go mion. God’s mill may grind slowly, but it grinds finely.

and last- láinte chugat Good health to you.

Happy day after St Pet’s Day oops St Patrick’s Day!!!:-)

You look good in your castle pic, it’s funny but that castle is pretty close to where your great grandparents immigrated from in Mayo. I’m glad your Mom put some of the sayings in the Irish as I only know the dirty sayings.
