Sometimes it is just not even worth it to leave the house. It was around 10:15pm and I thought I would run a quick errand. So I am sitting at the intersection of King’s Highway and Argonne Road in Winona about to make a right hand turn. There’s a police car sitting next to me on my left. I take a right after coming to a complete stop, (firmly buckled in, as usual). Suddenly, as I go up the hill, Mr. Policeman is behind me with, lights flashing. I am like…what the heck. So the officer comes up to my truck and asks the usual “Do you know why I stopped you?” question, to which I of course replied, “No, I have no idea.” (Of course I was thinking, “Because you have nothing else to do.”) So he proceeds to tell me that my plate registration was expired. After telling me to “remain seated in my vehicle for my safety and yours,” he goes back to the car for like 20 minutes (what the fetch they do back there is beyond me). Meanwhile, I am sitting there watching all these cars go by me and wondering how many people are going to recognize the wonderbox and laugh at me tomorrrow. Thank God for tinted windows at least. So he comes back with his officer in training (who I know from Grace security) and gives me the citation. I am already annoyed (at myself) for not getting the dang car registered, but now I have to pay a frickin ticket as well.

But, dear reader, it gets better. He tells me “now for the bad news.” I am thinking “oh gosh, now what.” “We have to take your vehicle,” he says. I am rather incredulous at this point and ask for clarification. “Take my truck? Whatever for?” “Because it is illegal to drive an unregistered vehicle in the state of Indiana.” he says. “So I called a towtruck and they are on their way.” I looked at him and said, “so you don’t give any mercy, you just take my truck.” He goes, “well if you had an accident, who do you think they would sue?” I was like, “ummm, my insurance company.” He’s like,” no, they would sue me and take my house and my car. Would you want someone to take your house and your car?” I can’t stand when people ask me idiotic questions like that. I mean there is no answer to that except the one they want you to say. So I was like fine, whatever. I had to fill out this form and take everything of value out of the truck. They did offer me a ride home which I declined. I just walked the three or so miles home. “So I could cool off” as the officer put it. At least it was a nice night for a walk. Anyway, now I have to pay frickin $70 to get the truck out of impound, the ticket, and another $75 to register the truck. So if I wasn’t officially broke already, I am for real now.
