Doing our Part

Posted on Tuesday 20 November 2007Tuesday 20 November 2007 by Joshua

Just a small update on the Rogers family recycling plan. We have been doing it for a few weeks now and I am glad to say that we are well below the national average. Most Americans dispose of 100lbs of trash per week. This week, I weighed everything as we got it ready to take to the recycle bins:
Paper: 26lbs
Plastic: 9lbs
Cans/Bottles: 7lbs
Total: 42lbs recycled!
Trash: 13lbs

I was excited to see how much progress we have made just by simply changing our habits slightly. It honestly has not taken much at all. I know we will continue to do this and improve. Also, we are doing it at Voice and it seems to be catching on. I took at least 4 bags of plastic to the recycle bins as opposed to 1 bag just 2 weeks ago.

Hooray for you buddy! I would love to be an avid recycler. I haven’t picked up the lifestyle in its full glory but I am trailing your effort.
Listen, all it takes is one person to make change a reality. Stick with it my friend! So many people use the excuse of why they quit something healthy, ecologically sound and/or life changing…. “they were doing it alone so they just gave up.” Convictions are convictions. Even if nobody catches the fever, don’t stop doing what you know is right.( and pray we all do catch on and make a mark in our world 🙂 )
May your household be blessed for their valiant and courageous effort to make a difference in any way they can.

Dave and Renee were awesome at recycling and I loved that! It was an amazing habit to catch. And now even at work we finally got a paper/cardboard recycling bin. Can I just tell you that in 3 days here at camp we filled the 6yrd dumpster half full! Its crazy how much you can recycle and all it takes is putting stuff from one barrel to the other. Go figure. Well, I think its great and love that you are so conscious of it! YAY for the Rogers and Petrillo Man! 🙂

I still talk to people who shrug off the idea because they remember the really old days of cleaning of paper plates and such.

If you don’t have curbside pickup, you can take “another mans treasure” to several drops in the area.
