The latest issue of Vigilant has some good tools to help you to discern what’s good and what’s not. I challenge myself every time I write one of these things, and I know that the more I filter out the bad and replace it with that which is good, the more I become like Christ. Isn’t that the goal? I always imagine Enoch – he walked with God and … was not. What does that even mean? He was so close to God that one day he just walked into glory. No longer was he here, but there … translated in an instant. He walked with God. That meant that the stuff of this world was of such little consequence and so close was he to the mind and heart of the Lord that he just walked into His presence. There are so many days that I wish that the stuff of this world was so inconsequential to me and that it did not have the pull and sway upon it that it so frequently does. But I suppose that is what the apostle Paul is speaking of when he says to throw off the sins that do so easily beset us (Hebrews 12:1-2).
So that’s the point of what we think about what we put into our heads… that is why we throw out the stuff that is not life giving and that fills us with negative imagery – violence, sexuality, profanity, The Lord is consumed with holiness, and so should we be if we are striving to be like Him. It’s a journey, but every step we take is one step away from the old nature and one step closer to living righteously.
You’ve been a constant source of encouragement to Dave and I, in this area and many others. Thank you Josh!
